Hey Everybody,
I hope you all are enjoying these first days of Spring and I pray that everyone had a blessed Easter. I really love this time of year knowing that summer is around the corner. For those of you who do not yet know, Shirley and I had a house fire a couple of weeks ago. We are both fine however it could have turned out much differently. The fire started in our attic due to a separation in the encasement in our fireplace. We were at home and did not know the house was on fire. We are the last house in the city limits so you are intending to go by our house if you drive by. A city policeman “happened” by our house and saw the roof on fire. He knocked loudly on our door and told us to get out of the house immediately. I have never heard the words, “This is the police, open up!” live and in person before and I hope I never do again. The Lord definitely sent him by our home that night or it would have burned to the ground maybe with us in it. We will be out of the house for about 6 weeks while the repairs are done.
Even with the fire, 2008 has been a great year. God continues to open doors and bless us in ways that we don’t expect and can’t imagine. Karen Peck and New River are still some of my greatest friends and I had the opportunity to write 3 songs with Karen on her new project “Journey of Joy.” We were thrilled to find out that the project was nominated for a Grammy this year. Ricky Skaggs won the category and we were very happy for him. Karen said it was a thrill just to be nominated. I’m looking for the win…LOL. Also, I wrote the first single for Austins Bridge with them and was nominated for a Dove Award this year. The award ceremony is April 23rd so we’ll see what happens.
I’ve thought a lot this year about Romans 8:28. Even though we know that all things are going to work together for our good according to the Bible, why is it so hard not to panic and speak all sorts of defeat in the middle of a “challenging” situation? Shirley and I have decided that God’s word is undeniably true and that we can either accept it and stand on it and be able to reap the benefits or we can continue to rely on our own strength which will get us nowhere. When the world looks at us in the middle of a trial, I wonder if they see anything different, anything that would cause them to want what we have as children of God. If not, then I believe something has to change. That’s what we’ve decided at our house. We’ve repented for old habits of trying to manipulate God into doing our will and instead are trying to seek His will and His way. Life is so much better that way. I hope you are experiencing that greatness that God has for you. Drop me a line and let me know what’s going on in your world. I’d love to hear from you.
