Merry Christmas Everybody! I'm like everyone else, I can't believe
how quickly the season has come this year. But the frigid weather
we're experiencing here in the eastern part of Kentucky is making
us sing "It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas." I
really love this time of year. I get to do some Christmas concerts
because of my Christmas project so it always causes me to reflect
on what the season is really about when I start to sing those songs.
I'm still a kid at Christmas. I love to surprise people and watch
them open presents just to see their faces light up. I can't help
but remember when Michael was just big enough to walk and how much
more he enjoyed the wrapping paper and the tubes they come on than
he did the actual presents.
The holidays are a time for memories and family and warm traditions.
I love the smell of the kitchen when my grandma is baking pies. She
enjoys cutting up the fruit and nuts for the fruit salad and cranberry
salad. My whole family is crazy about her Graham Cracker Pies but
I love her made from scratch Chocolate Pie the best. I have thought
more in the last few years about how slim gifts were at Christmas
when I was growing up and it makes me really appreciate the way my
mom made it feel like we didn't lack anything. She has a gift for
being able to see the best in things that I hope I have inherited.
We will get together on Christmas Eve and have snacks and my grandma's
famous punch that is made with pineapple sherbet (I can't wait!) and
then cap the evening off by going to church for the Christmas Eve
service that is truly one of my favorites.
I pray this Christmas will be a time for resting, enjoying your family
and drawing closer to the Lord than ever before. It's a great way
to end the old year and start the new. I know it's not politically
correct anymore so I love to say it that much more, Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year! I'll talk to you in 2006.
